IDL entrance control turnstiles are installed in a wide variety of environments, and we work with a number of preferred integrators whose knowledge of their specialist environment serves them, us and the customer well as it gives us the valuable insight into the specific requirements of their sector which ensures that we are able to keep our product recommendation tight to the brief and maximise customer satisfaction. One such example is Telepen, widely regarded as the specialist installer of library access control systems, a reputation built up over 15 years of experience and with whom we are pleased to join in creating beautifully integrated entrance control solutions which are suitable for their individual environments.
Campus libraries are central to student life, and monitoring their use with turnstiles operated by access cards not only ensures that only authorised users are granted access, but also enables the capture of a wealth of useful information that can have benefits for the administration in terms of staff planning, budget control and other management planning.
Starting with the standard Glasswing, selected by Telepen for its aesthetics as much as its speed of processing, we create a bespoke top to allow for integration of the card reader and a display panel. The tops of the Glasswing turnstiles are created from Corian®, a luxurious material which has long-lasting, stain and scratch resistant qualities and is available in a wide range of colours, although the libraries most commonly request black tops. Bespoke alteration requests like these are simple to action because all our products are manufactured in Britain from scratch to fulfil specific orders rather than retro-fitted.
The readers connect to Telepen’s software, Sentry, the leading access control product for academic libraries which has been installed in excess of 150 higher education environments. Sentry can be accessed by cards featuring RFID, barcode or magnetic swipe technologies to allow access and can also be linked to a book detection system which prevents the unauthorised removal of library stock.
Paul Burchett, Managing Director of Telepen chooses the Glasswing turnstile from IDL because he finds that our products are reliable from the outset, “Reliability is often the sacrifice of cost saving. For us, it’s really important that we can trust that the turnstiles will work from installation because the integration of access controls is frequently part of wider construction work and it is difficult to gain access later in the schedule or, worse still, after the library has reopened. Having to revisit the site to fix faulty equipment can impact on our relationship with our client so it is vital that we can be as sure as possible that the turnstiles will be reliable.”
Phil Allen (Regional Sales Manager UK & Eire) added “IDL is proud to be working alongside Telepen to provide an all-encompassing solution for the library market. Libraries provide a unique challenge as they require a high level of integration. Working together IDL and Telepen can offer reliable systems that can integrate RFID and Barcode technology along with a user friendly display which makes the product incredibly intuitive for users.”
